Our family has been blessed to have The Milton Home staff caring for my Dad, especially during this pandemic. They have been working hard to keep residents safe while still allowing visits outside. Theresa Sleeter, Visitation Ambassador has been a gem to us and all of the residents coordinating visits. Janet Brownbridge, Activities Director, has always been terrific with activities and the personal care and attention given to residents as well. Several nurses and other staff members, over the years Dad has been a resident, have reached out stating we could text them when we have a question or concern. The Milton Home might not be the fanciest place, but they make residents feel at home.

Resident’s Daughter, A long-term care Family Member

Hello website readers. If you are considering assisted living at The Milton Home for yourself or loved one, I would like to share my perspective.

No one wants to move to assisted living! That is, no one can easily admit to themselves they need assisted living, much less a nursing home.

It was tough for me to leave ‘normal’ life behind and move to The Milton Home. But, now that I am here, I’m glad to know, because of their graduated care, I can just stay here.

At The Milton Home they always say….you can “Start Here and Stay Here”. Knowing I do not have to move again when I need advanced care is a blessing.

I don’t feel like I’m being warehoused here. I know I’ll get to remain here as my medical needs change, and will not have to go through a move again.

I can be as involved and engaged in Activities as I want, or not…all while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings overlooking the St. Joe River and, of course, the caring staff.

Fondly,

Emily

I’ve lived at The Milton Home for 3 years and have loved every moment here. There are so many new friends. Attending religious services on Sunday is so convenient because it takes place here. Most of the daily meals are delicious. Of course, there are items I don’t like, and that is fine, as I just get more of what I do like. I most certainly do not starve. “No one can be bored here. There is bingo, my favorite, plus scenic drives. We jump on the bus and go site seeing…Studebaker Museum, Notre Dame campus, plus all the beautiful mansions in South Bend.. This is my forever home.”

“I selected The Milton Home for my next home in part because of the location, and my apartment is spacious and facing all the ‘action’. I sit by my window, watch families arrive for visits, employees coming and going, deliveries., even the snow blowing and landscaping teams. My favorite thing to do is people watch, I can at The Milton Home. The staff at The Milton Home treat me with dignity and respect.“

Home is better with family.  At The Milton Home all our residents and staff feel like my family.  Because we are a small community, I have been able to meet and engage with all our other residents.  The staff has taken the time to get to know me, my preferences, habits, and quirky ways.

Yes, the nursing staff assists me with medications and other care needs, but the most important thing to me is the atmosphere, graciousness, and overall homey environment where I know my voice is important and is heard.

As a prolific artist, I have to say it is great that my work, along with other resident’s work, is shared in newsletters and published articles.  We even have a title, “Artists – in – Residence”.  Every opportunity is taken to support me and my friends emotionally and intellectually.  For me, this support is critical and encourages me to be even more creative.
